Family Law and Care Proceedings

Shajeda Begum is a Family Solicitor with over 15 years of PQE gained across Public & Private Family Law.

Shajeda qualified as a Solicitor in London in 2005 and became an accredited member of the Law Society’s children panel in 2012.

Shajeda commenced her career in Law at the age of 18 when she started work experience with the City of London Police, and after that continued to work with the police whilst studying for her LLB Law degree. Shajeda then completed her Legal practice course and worked at a local one-stop-shop while offering advice and assistance on issues around benefits, housing and Family Law.

Upon successfully completing the LPC, Shajeda joined a well-established law firm in the heart of London in Liverpool street, where she started her training contract and qualified as a solicitor and remained with the firm for a further two years.

Shajeda practised in London until 2017, when she relocated to Lancashire and now takes work from Manchester and Lancashire.

Shajeda’s experience is broad but focuses primarily on child care cases initiated by the local authority, including interim care orders, supervision orders, emergency protection orders, pre-proceedings, injunctions and domestic violence cases. Shajeda regularly represents parents, extended family members, children and guardians. Shajeda often deals with complex care cases, including non – accidental injuries and domestic violence and sexual abuse. In addition, Shajeda has worked in some high profile radicalisation cases.

In private children’s law proceedings, Shajeda represents parents on issues around contact, whom the child should live with, specific matters concerning the children and prohibited steps orders.

Shajeda also represents clients concerning injunctions and non-molestation and occupation orders.

Shajeda advises and attends local drop-in services once a month, providing free legal advice to a centre in the evening and also delivers training to local police on the Family Law Act 1996.

Shajeda is fluent in Bengali, Urdu and conversational Gujrati.

Shajeda is the head of the family department at Abbey Solicitors. She has a real genuine passion for the Law and making a difference in an area of Law that is often very sensitive and emotional and getting the right results for her clients.

Shajeda is an accredited member of the Law Society Children Panel, Association of Lawyers for Children & Muslim Lawyers Action Group ( MLAG)
